Chicago, Chi-CAH-go, a wonderful town...

Chi-town bloggy friends! I'm thinking of tripping out there around the end of the month. Should I stay in hotels in the Loop or Magnificent Mile area? Discuss, providing at least three examples and/or illustrations of why I should or should not stay in each area. Post to comments or click here. Best answer gets a cocktail or two on me. Bribery? Yes. You know I'm kidding about the minimum of three examples bit, right?

My suggestion right now is the Loop. You're within walking distance of museums, shopping, food and other goodies. Admittedly it's a shitload of people there, but since you're a Nooo Yawker, you should be OK with that.

The Magnicifent Mile is just a bit too much for me. Too many people, too many overpriced shops that I can find in Madison and too touristy for my tastes.

I'd say stay with Keidra, but she'd kick my ass *evil grin* I don't know much about hotels, but someone else out there is bound to give you good advice.

YAY! I second Viv about staying in the Loop for all the reasons she listed (good job Viv!) and I'll add that if you stay in the Loop and you can meet Rob, Carlos, and me for a drink after work at Venice Cafe. Did I mention they pour a good, stiff, and cheap drink? Or maybe it was the detail of the free pizza! Of course, this is if you be in town during a weeknight.

I recommend the W Hotel--City Center, Hotel Allegro, Hotel Burnham, and Hotel Monaco. All these hotels are in the heart of the theatre district. Hotel 71 is a slick hotel across the river from the official downtown area. My personal fave is the W Hotel--City Center. I've never stayed there but friends enjoy the swankiness. I've personally stayed at the Monaco and Burnham and I love them! Free wine reception after 5pm! Ok. So I like my drinky drinks...what? Anyway, if you want more info, I'd be more than happy to offer more via email. :-D

Thanks Shasta and Viv! I wouldn't want to impose on any area bloggers. I like the hotel experience. Decadence and all that.

The Loop it is, then. I think I may go for an expedia package I saw at the Allegro, which looked pretty nice. I'll definitely be there on a weekday, so you're on for afterwork drinks!
