Question

It may be that I'm just tired, as it is the ass-crack of dawn and I haven't gone to bed yet, but I can't seem to think of any lady-based (all-female leads) film for which the plot does not hinge upon romance, motherhood/family, or the struggle to balance career with romance or motherhood/family. Please suggest some. Remember, female leads, but not about romance or family. Thanks. Now that I'm restedish, I feel as though someone has already asked this question. Keidra, did you already ask this?

I don't know if documentaries count in your tally but the first one I could think of this documentary called Daughters of Everest, about the first ever expedition of women Sherpas to climb the mountain.

And... gorillas in the mist! There might be a boy in that story, I don't really remember.

I like this question, so I will ask around in the Yang Lab and the Cedarhouse

"Contact" with Jodie Foster...I know that there is romance in the film, but the film itself is not about romance. Also, speaking of Jodie Foster, there's also "The Accused."

(from Keidra's "big sis")

How's about Point of No Return, or for that matter the original La Femme Nikita. I've only seen the former, but I don't recall much romance.

Other movies I've not seen, but have a female leads, and don't seem to be "romantic": Girl Fight, Mean Girls, Million Dollar Baby.

Was there romance in either Tomb Raider films? I can't remember.

I'm basically thinking along the lines of what films have kick-ass female leads or action hero female leads.

Oooh. Norma Rae, but I think it has the family element.

OK, I'm done.

I've never asked this, but its a good question.

I hear "Miss Congeniality 2" has two female leads without romantic interests or family ties. No, I haven't seen it.

Does "All About Eve" count?
